Pool Rules

The Fairfax Swimming Pool (FSP) is operated for the benefit of the members and their guests. The following rules have been established by the board to assure safe, orderly and sanitary operations of the pool facilities. Persons violating the rules may be expelled from the pool premises and/or lose pool privileges.


  1. The Pool Manager has final authority to interpret and enforce existing FSP and pool management company rules.
  2. When deemed necessary, the Pool Manager has the authority to ask anyone, regardless of age, to leave the pool premises. Should this be necessary, the Pool Manager will notify the Board of actions taken.
  3. No loud, abusive, or profane language, rough play or conduct, or other breach of good behavior is allowed on pool property.
  4. Guests are subject to the same rules and regulations as members. The sponsoring member assumes full responsibility for the conduct of and/or damage caused by their guest(s).
  5. No intoxicated persons are allowed on pool property.
  6. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on pool property with the exception of board-sponsored activities.
  7. Fire arms, air guns, sling shots, and/or other weapons or dangerous devices are not permitted on pool property.
  8. Glass or similarly breakable objects are not permitted on pool property.
  9. All trash and litter must be placed in the proper containers.
  10. Drive slowly and carefully, following the flow of traffic, in the parking lot.
  11. "Lost and Found" articles will be placed in custody of the Pool Manager.
  12. Bicycles and scooters will be placed in the bike racks and will not be allowed to clutter the entrance walkways.
  13. No smoking or tobacco use of any kind is permitted on pool property.

Pool Enclosure

  1. Members and guests are allowed within the pool enclosure only when the pool is officially opened and life guards are on duty, with the exception of swim/dive practice and meets.
  2. Members and their families will be allowed to enter the pool enclosure only upon showing Membership ID cards at the front desk.
  3. Members who are delinquent in their annual dues will be denied admission to the pool until their dues and any fees incurred are paid in full.
  4. A child less than 10 years of age will be admitted to the pool enclosure only when accompanied by a responsible member, 15 years of age or older, in whose charge the child will remain at all times.
  5. Persons having communicable diseases, sores or other skin diseases, inflamed eyes, nasal or ear discharge, excessive sunburn, or wearing bandages, may be refused admission to the pool enclosure.
  6. No pet of any kind will be permitted within the pool enclosure.
  7. The pool will be closed during storms and when the temperature falls below 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. Pool members and their guests are responsible for monitoring their children on the playground equipment, which includes the open area by the entrance, the swing set and toddler play area, and the grassy area near the charcoal grill. Lifeguards are not responsible for monitoring children in these areas.

Pool Decking

  1. Food, chewing gum, and beverages are not permitted on the pool decking.
  2. Running on the pool deck is not allowed.
  3. Pool users must wash their feet when returning to the deck from any grass area. Persons with muddy or dirty feet or shoes are not permitted on the pool decking.
  4. All unauthorized persons must stay clear of the lifeguard stations. Loitering under and around the station is not permitted.

Swimming Pool

  1. The Pool Manager may restrict vigorous activities, on the part of adults, older children, or large children, in the shallow end of the pool, especially when the pool is crowded or the shallow end is in use by small children.
  2. A shower is required by all persons before using the pool.
  3. There will be a 10-15 minute break period every 60 minutes. This period is reserved for swimming for those 15 years of age or older.
  4. Spitting, sprouting of water through the mouth, and nose blowing is prohibited in the pool.
  5. At the lifeguard's discretion, persons who cannot demonstrate satisfactory swimming ability may not be permitted in water above their shoulders.
  6. Floatation devices (tubes, rafts, noodles, etc.) will not be allowed in the pool if their use in any way adversely affects others' use of the pool, at the Pool Manager's discretion.
  7. Noodles are not approved as, and cannot be used as, a floatation device by non-swimmers.
  8. Bathers who are not toilet trained or incontinent persons must wear a swim diaper. Patrons wearing cloth or disposable diapers are prohibited from entering the pool water.

Diving Area

  1. Only one person at a time is permitted on the diving board. Hanging or excessive bouncing on the diving board is not permitted.
  2. Before diving, divers must make sure the previous diver has reached the ladder or side of the pool.
  3. A dive must be straight out from the end of the board and be no greater than 8 feet from the end of the diving board.
  4. Running is not permitted on the diving board.
  5. After the dive, divers must quickly clear the diving area for other divers.
  6. No swimming is allowed in the diving area, except at the discretion of the life guard.
  7. Use of floatation devices is prohibited in the diving well.
  8. Lifeguards may, at their discretion, restrict cannon-balling or other such activities, including unsafe dives.

Wading Pool

  1. Supervision of children in the wading pool is the responsibility of the parent or adult supervisor. Supervision shall be described as being within arms reach of the child at all times.
  2. Children must not be left unattended at any time.
  3. Bathers who are not toilet trained or incontinent persons must wear a swim diaper. Patrons wearing cloth or disposable diapers are prohibited from entering the pool water.
  4. Use of the wading pool is limited to children under 6 years of age or younger, or to those who do not usually use the main pool.
  5. The gate leading to/from the wading pool should remain closed and latched at all times.
